If you had asked me when I was a teenager if I would be photographing my high school friend, Melanie, for her new head shots some years later (I'm not saying how many years later), I would have said you were crazy. Well, as the saying goes, "never say never." Melanie and I went to high school together not far from where we are both living now. It's funny how we both moved away from, lived in California at different times, and now we are both back about 15 miles from where we grew up. I think there is a statistic about how you come back to where you grew up as an adult. Though I'm originally from the Chicago area, I lived most of my pre-teen and teenage years in the Atlanta area.
Melanie and I played basketball and softball together with my older sister on our high school teams and Melanie and I both went on to play basketball in college. We are very competitive, loyal, straightforward and a little crazy at times, but we love to have FUN! It was no different during her head shot session. We talked about our mothers and how our families were doing and then we got down to business. We did an indoor photo session in my home studio, but she also wanted to do an outdoor, more lifestyle session, so we just went outside. As I had planned, the sun was coming through the trees just a little bit to highlight her hair. Those are the ones she chose!
I always enjoy doing head shot sessions because they are like mini-portrait sessions with a specific purpose -- to market my customers in their businesses. Melanie is a real estate agent and she needed new head shots with her new agency. I was happy to oblige.
Some of my best times in high school was being on my sports teams and spending time photographing Melanie reminded of those times. Thanks, Mel!
